I am in the desert at night. I feel it is important that I see the sun rise. I can see the sun strike the top of the distant mountains. I turn around and see a low domes building and a sort of totem pole that changes into a saguaro cactus and back again.
The sun rises and I enter the building through a low door. Inside there is darkness but I could "see" because of a bluish light vibration. I sit on a low seat or cushion. There is a fire near the east wall and two other seats. There has been a fire before but no smoke now.
Two other people come, one a woman who controls water energy and a man who controls earth. I held the fire energy. The fireplace itself had sage or pinon burning (we must have lit it) and the smoke represented the air energy in our ritual.
We are there to resolve a dark energy in a not-too-distant village. I can see a black "thought form" when I melt into the smoke. I follow the smoke out through a hole in the roof and spread out on it as far as it would go. Then I come back into the hut. The dark entity also dissipates and spreads out in its proper way, no longer a threat to the village.
Instead of including every possible symbol, I have included a few that seem especially significant to the action of this dream. The entire dream leads up to the last sentence, in which the “problem” is resolved, seemingly without any difficulty. The meanings of the symbols listed here indicate something about how the problem reaches resolution.
Air: Air in a dream could be just the normal stuff that fills the space around us. It could also symbolize thought, logic, and objectivity. Just as the eagle soars high above and looks down to spy its prey, we mentally find an objective viewpoint from which we can understand more clearly. Flying in dreams often indicates the lucid realm-you have more control over the plot of the dream drama in lucid dreams.
Black: Black is the color of the Shadow, that part of yourself that resides in the unconscious.
Building: Architecture is the result of human activity. The particular type of architecture is significant to the meaning of the dream. The complexity of architectural elements suggests that the dream is not as simple as it may appear on the surface -- investigation will very likely turn up a hidden significance.
Burning: In alchemy burning something is symbolic of purifying the essential substance. Perhaps you are becoming aware of a part of yourself that is being purified by a difficult test.
Desert: The arid desert symbolizes the more objective view of the intellect, as opposed to the watery condition of the unconscious mind. The sun rules there, and the sun symbolizes spiritual radiance. Thus the desert in your dream may indicate your search for or your discovery of the spirit within yourself.
Door: The archetypal door is a feminine symbol, as it is the entrance to a space, as compared to a wall, which delimits the space. Doors represent access to all within, and therefore are symbolic of intelligence. They also are symbolic of change and transition from one place or state to another. Finally, they are the archetypal entrance to the self or soul, symbolized by the building itself.
Earth: While the sun is the source of the energy needed for life, it is the earth that provides the container for life. The condition of the earth in your dream suggests the opinion of your unconscious mind about the condition of your relationship to life.
East: East is the direction of the past.
Fire: Fire in a dream symbolizes contact with the intuitive side of your nature. What is the fire saying to you? What is the emotion associated with it?
Hole: The hole symbolizes a passage from one thing or place to another. It can indicate a passage into a different spiritual existence.
Light: Light is a symbol for spirit. Turning on a light implies an infusion of spirit into a dream scene. Light is also a creative cosmic force, and the particular creative quality can be described by its color and intensity.
Pole: The pole is the mystic center in many traditions. In a dream a pole can be seen as defining both direction and center for you.
Smoke: Smoke incorporates the fire and air elements into visible form, yet the form is utterly elusive. Smoke has the magical capacity in rituals to ward off negative energies. Being carried by smoke allows you to astral travel or spread your consciousness over wide areas.
Sun: The sun is the center of the solar system, and symbolizes the spiritual center of being.
Water: Water is the matter from which the world was made at the time of Creation. Water symbolizes life. Its condition reflects something about the way you see life at any given time.
